EU261

Missed connection compensation

If your first flight ran late and made you miss the second — and you arrived at your final destination three hours late or more — the airline owes you the standard EU261 amount.

When you can claim

You're eligible if all of these apply:

Why single-booking matters

If you booked the two flights separately, EU261 treats them as separate journeys. The airline running the first leg is only responsible for delivering you to that destination on time — not for the connection you booked elsewhere. Always book connecting flights together when you can, even if it costs slightly more — it's what protects you.

How much you're owed

The compensation is calculated on the total distance from your origin to your final destination, in a single great-circle line, regardless of where you stopped.

Total distance (origin to destination)Compensation
Up to 1,500 km€250
Intra-EU > 1,500 km, or 1,500–3,500 km€400
Over 3,500 km extra-EU€600
