Missed connection compensation

When you can claim

You're eligible if all of these apply:

• The flights were booked together on a single ticket / single booking reference.
• The first flight departed from an EU airport, or arrived in the EU on an EU airline.
• You missed the connection because the first flight was late.
• Your final arrival at your destination was 3 or more hours after the originally scheduled arrival time.

Why single-booking matters

If you booked the two flights separately, EU261 treats them as separate journeys. The airline running the first leg is only responsible for delivering you to that destination on time — not for the connection you booked elsewhere. Always book connecting flights together when you can, even if it costs slightly more — it's what protects you.

How much you're owed

The compensation is calculated on the total distance from your origin to your final destination, in a single great-circle line, regardless of where you stopped.
