When you can claim
You're entitled to compensation if all of the following are true:
- Your flight departed from an EU airport, or arrived in the EU on an EU-registered airline.
- You were notified of the cancellation less than 14 days before departure.
- The cancellation was not caused by extraordinary circumstances (severe weather, ATC strikes, security alerts).
- You had a confirmed booking and checked in on time.
How much you're owed
| Distance | Compensation |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | €250 |
| Intra-EU > 1,500 km, or 1,500–3,500 km | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km extra-EU | €600 |
The amount depends on the scheduled distance of the flight, not the delay length.
What if the airline rebooked me?
You can still be entitled to compensation if the alternative flight they put you on arrives significantly later. The exact rule depends on how late they told you and how big the delay on arrival ends up being — our checker handles this automatically.
Refund vs compensation
These are two separate rights. If your flight is cancelled and you choose not to fly, you're entitled to a full refund — AND, separately, to the compensation amounts above. Airlines often offer one or the other; you're entitled to both.
